Michael Townes Watson, author of "America’s Tunnel Vision: How Insurance Companies" Propaganda is Corrupting Medicine and Law" describes how insurance companies have managed to sell the American public and our elected representatives lies and misinformation about "tort reform" in order to make more profits. In the process they have turned the practice of medicine the concept of fair laws on their heads.

Sasha Abramsky, author of "Conned", tells us about the disenfranchisement of convicted felons. Many people don’t know it, but people convicted of felonies (serious and otherwise) are often prohibited by state law from voting for years, sometimes forever. It seems somewhat counterproductive in today’s society to exclude people that we want to be model citizens from doing the very thing model citizens should do, vote!
Nina Totenberg, Legal Affairs Correspondence for NPR, has covered the U. S. Supreme Court for years and has intimate knowledge of how the Court works. She was the reporter responsible for breaking the Anita Hill story during the confirmation hearings of Justice Thomas. Nina shares her experiences and unique insight into this branch of our government.
Lori Ringhand, Professor of Law, University of Kentucky, evaluated all the decisions of the U. S. Supreme Court from 1995 thru 2004. The results: she found that the "conservative" judges were more judicially active than the liberal judges. The conservatives voted to overturn federal laws more often than the liberals. How about that!
Dr. Jeffery Segal, Executive Officer of Medical Justice, a company whose purpose is to prevent frivolous lawsuits. Sounds like a good idea and hard to argue against, but the way his company does it is a little suspect. They train doctors to require patients to sign agreements at the time they receive their medical care that make certain legal commitments in the event the patient ends up suing the doctor.
Howard Nations is an attorney from Texas. Texas, through the "mis-leadership" of George Bush and the Republicans, has passed tort reform measures that are bizarre. Listen to Howard explain how bartenders can get people drunk at the bar and bear virtually no responsibility if the drunk kills someone on the way home. After they got control of the Governor’s mansion and the legislature, the Republicans took over the courts to make sure their bad laws remained on the books. Listen and weep for a society gone greedy.

Mark Smith has written a book called "Disrobed: The New Battle Plan to Break the Left’s Stranglehold on the Courts." Mark proudly declares that judges ought to be biased and ought to favor conservative positions. Mark apparently has not thought through this enough to realize that his proposal flies in the face to what our Constitution stands for. I can’t figure Mark out. He is one of the most misguided people that I have ever talked to.
J. Vincent Cook is President of the State Bar of Georgia. "Jay" alerts us to the attack being made on judges and courts by George Israel, President of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce.
