If you have or need a Living Will, if you have or need a “Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare,” you need to throw them away and replace them with the new “Georgia Advance Directive for Health Care.” And if you ever wondered why you had two or needed two such documents, you can quit wondering. Now you need only one.
HB 24 passed by the 2007 Legislature introduces a whole new, all inclusive form into health care decisions. Your old Living Will and Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare are still valid, but the new form is really comprehensive. The law became effective July 1, 2007.
You can download the Georgia Advance Directive for Healthcare but it is farily lengthy so read it carefully. When you have made your decisions, fill it out, have it properly witnessed and you are ready to become a vegetable!
Sorry, I just could not resist! May you live long and well.
