Interview with William Brown, AARP and the Divided We Fail Campaign

Maybe you have seen the “Divided We Fail” commercials on TV. (It’s the one with Donkephant-half donkey and half elephant.) If you want to know more about this effort, hopefully this interview will provide it. If not, go to the AARP website and read all about it.

AARP is a non-profit organization that focuses on issues that affect us older people, one of them being healthcare, which affects everyone, actually. AARP, in conjunction with the Business Roundtable and SEIU (Servide Employees International Union), created the “Divided We Fail” campaign in an effort to make healthcare an issue to be reckoned with in the 2008 presidential race. Together, these organizations have a combined membership of over 50 million.

William Brown was the Director of AARP of Georgia until he was reassigned to South Carolina to head up this campaign.

There are a lot of websites that will tell you the number of uninsured Americans is 40+ million, but I found one by the Business and Media Institute that says this is a lie. BMI is division of the Media Research Center which claims to be a conservative watchdog for the liberal media.

Do you ever wish for a return to the day when Walter C. came on at 6:30 p.m., you listened to the news and you went to bed without ever thinking you had been lied to? I wish liberals and conservatives would quit griping about liberal and conservative bias in the media and just get back to telling us the simple truth. I would sleep a lot better and probably a lot more.

But regardless of whether there are 40 million or 20 million or 10 million uninsured Americans, there is something wrong with a system that costs this much and generates more and more profits for health insurers.
